You sweet, summer child. I don’t like porn. I don’t watch it or consume it in any way. But this? *gestures around* What Tumblr is doing? This is following exactly what LiveJournal did less than ten years ago. It’s following what fanfiction.net did. By taking a site that previously allowed NSFW, letting illegal content through, then over correcting by establishing a blanket ban and letting the bots do most of the work instead of having humans review it, things spiral quickly. This isn’t a hypothetical slippery slope. It has happened before, and it is happening now.

Ever since the Tumblr app was pulled for being NSFW and they started yanking blogs it has followed the LiveJournal strikethroughs step for step. Like, to the point that I genuinely wonder if Warriors for Innocence isn’t somehow behind these shenanigans. Right now Tumblr isn’t just killing porn blogs, they’re pulling LGBT blogs that are completely SFW, just out and proud. They’re flagging fandom blogs and posts that are SFW (Example 1, Example 2). They don’t have people with common sense reviewing the flags, the same way ff.net and LJ didn’t.

I’m just so frustrated because while some people do see the pattern repeating, the majority are either trying to find the new line Tumblr is drawing or they’re crowing about people being mad their porn is gone.

Ahem. Not a single one of the things that has been flagged on my blog was porn, and I can submit screencaps to prove it if you like. This is why people are getting annoyed.
