Yeah, regarding that suicide hotline post I reblogged: I genuinely worry, with the number of mentally ill people on this site trying to live with and/or ease their mental illness, that some of these people are going to get tricked by Scientologist anti-psychiatry propaganda. I mean, that’s how cults lure people in; they pick people who feel there’s something missing or wrong with their lives and take advantage of them by claiming to have the solution to all their problems.
I’ve joked in the past about “What if the Church of Scientology got a Tumblr?” but there’s a part of me that’s worried that there are Scientologists on Tumblr trying to spread dangerous misinformation about mental health.
I hope that part of me is wrong.
UPDATE: So, uh, turns out a branch of $cientology technically HAS made Tumblr blogs. Several of them. If you see any blogs promoting a drug rehab facility called “Narconon”, please be aware that they ARE associated with the Church of $cientology, and they have a rather troubling history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narconon
Today is Leelah Alcorn’s birthday. This beautiful soul, whose time in this world was cut short with her own hand, pushed by those who pushed her true self away, she will live on in our hearts. Please never forget her, and who she really was. And in that, please remember her struggle, and know that that same struggle carries on as a burden on thousands of trans-teenage shoulders. Support those you know, and never push them away. Hold them close and raise them up.
We love you, Leelah. Rest in peace. November 15, 1997-December 28, 2014
This blog will be no-platforming any inclusionist that suicide baits people or supports users that suicide bait people. I hope other blogs decide to do the same because wishing death on people, telling people to kill themselves, to go choke, etc is literally never okay.
If you find yourself wanting to say these things to people, you need to take a step back and take a break from discourse. If you find yourself wanting to do this often, maybe stop being involved in discourse all together because saying these things to people does absolutely nothing to help our cause. And if someone does end up hurting themselves because of what you say, you have blood on your hands. I don’t want any involvement with that kind of bullshit and if you find me reblogging anything by users like this, please let me know (with proof, of course).
The lack of notes on this post is really troubling to me.
I’m actually insulted. I just have to cling to the hope they said this to upset me and didn’t think I’d actually support their messed up shit.
I support calling out shitty behaviour online. I support getting people banned for violating the terms of service. I support (in the case of actually dangerous people like paedophiles or Neo-Nazis) doxxing people to get them arrested. And, for a case of Arson, Murder and Jaywalking, I support annoying people who’ve posted (and still agree with!) shitty opinions with stuff like Kung Pow Penis.
I do not support suicide baiting.
I wonder if there’s a way to report anon to staff or support. I know I don’t have their blog name but if you can block an anon, maybe their blog can be traced by the staff.
Of course that requires actual help from Tumblr staff. Yeah right.
