once on halloween in high school i decided that i would give myself a treat and “forget” my gym uniform and therefore lose participation credit for the day because you cant participate without the uniform. and the teacher was like, “if you’re in costume you don’t lose credit today because halloween,” and was listing off students who were visibly in costume who would get basically free credit, and she said my name much to my surprise and i realized that. she had never seen me in my regular clothes more than once or twice a couple months previously. she thought i was in costume. she had no idea i was just super fuckin goth.

I mean even the raw sentiment of giving yourself a gift of no gym class on Halloween is goth enough in itself

full of fence but why do so many cis people completely forget how to interact with a normal human being whenever they meet a trans person

some examples (mostly based on my own personal experiences)

a guy i barely knew began asking me extremely invasive questions about my sex life when he found out i was a gay trans man. If I was cis, this absolutely never would have happened.

a guy i had literally never talked to asked me if i peed standing up. If i had asked him the same question he would have been a little creeped out (and rightfully so because asking a stranger how he uses the bathroom is fucking weird)

I’ve had countless strangers ask me weird unnecessary questions about my genitalia. That’s like me walking up to random cis guys and asking if they’re circumcised. its weird and not socially acceptable at all, unless you happen to be trans.

this isn’t even including all of the “when are you getting THE surgery” and “whats your real name” questions i get.

just…as a general rule of thumb, if you wouldn’t say something to a cis person don’t fucking say it to a trans person. it really isn’t that hard

People always gloss over how mentally damaging it can be to work in retail. I fucking hate that whenever I say “I could never work in retail again” someone has to reply “You snowflake millennials can’t take a starter job because you have to INTERACT with other people” No. Fuck you. I’ve worked as a planetarium host. I’ve worked as a public speaker. I’ve worked as a tutor and as a student teacher. I can work with people. I can work with crowds. Retail was fucking different. Retail was being treated as a subhuman. Retail was being treated so poorly that you have anxiety attacks before work. Having to work retail was a factor in my last suicide attempt. If I hear you say one fucking word about retail workers playing the victim I will personally break every bone in your body. Fuck You.
