unpopular opinion but it’s cool if you don’t want to be in love
like, idk. I used to feel so compelled to make excuses for being single, whether it was self-deprecating jokes about myself or insisting that I was too busy for a relationship or making myself go out on uncomfortable and pointless dates just to make a show of trying to not be single. there’s such an expectation that if you’re single you should be actively working of changing that, and it’s like. nah. there are 9999 other things you can be focusing your time and energy on and if you don’t really feel like being in a relationship now or ever that’s cool.
yes and no. I’m aro as hecky but this post is also for people who maybe want a relationship eventually but just aren’t feeling it right now. we’re all cool.
You don’t have to understand asexuality or aromanticism (or bisexuality, pansexuality, being trans, noninary etc.) Just acknowledge it, respect it, and move on. These are real live human people we’re talking about here, just be nice.
Sorry if I have confused you. I don’t hate romance. I just hate that movies and books and series makes people think you need romance to have a happy ending.
What a lovely day to remember that LGBTQIA+ Pride includes aromantics and asexuals, pan and bisexuals, trans and nonbinary folk, intersex folk and people who fall into the complicated label of ‘queer.’
